ideas are like oxygen: a journal by Carrie Vaughn
Here’s one of the famous polydactyl cats who lives at the Hemingway House in Key West, Florida, in 2012. See that little extra toe on his front paw?
We have a polydactyl cat. She didn’t come from Key West, as far as I know.
She’s the only cat whose claws I can’t trim myself — she’s got this thing about being held, and this thing about having her paws touched. And, unfortunately, her extra thumb is positioned in such a way that it forces the normal one to not get stretched out, meaning that she must get her claws trimmed every 3-4 months, or she risks puncturing her pad.
I’ve been talked into going on a Caribbean cruise in March, partially so I can be taken to the Hemingway House to see that cats :).
I have LOADS of pictures from the Hemmingway house from 2010… we went on a tour and while the hubby was so excited to hear about Hemmingway (He’s a HS English teacher) I was chasing the cats… 🙂 It was amazing. It takes them days for the vet to come out and give them all a check up because he/she has to keep coming back because all the kitties hide.
I have a polydactyl cat from Jacksonville, Florida. He’s a gorgeous Maine Coon with a giant thumb on each forepaw.
