We have a polydactyl cat. She didn’t come from Key West, as far as I know.
She’s the only cat whose claws I can’t trim myself — she’s got this thing about being held, and this thing about having her paws touched. And, unfortunately, her extra thumb is positioned in such a way that it forces the normal one to not get stretched out, meaning that she must get her claws trimmed every 3-4 months, or she risks puncturing her pad.
I’ve been talked into going on a Caribbean cruise in March, partially so I can be taken to the Hemingway House to see that cats .
I have LOADS of pictures from the Hemmingway house from 2010… we went on a tour and while the hubby was so excited to hear about Hemmingway (He’s a HS English teacher) I was chasing the cats… It was amazing. It takes them days for the vet to come out and give them all a check up because he/she has to keep coming back because all the kitties hide.

I have a polydactyl cat from Jacksonville, Florida. He’s a gorgeous Maine Coon with a giant thumb on each forepaw.
