Library Trip

July 3, 2007

I made a productive trip to the library yesterday. Productive = I checked out way too many books that are way too interesting, and I read way too slowly (more about that another time). Thought folks might be interested to see where my research threads are going right at the moment:

Behind Bars: Surviving Prison, by Jeffrey Ian Ross and Stephen C. Richards

Warden: Prison Life and Death From the Inside Out, by Jim Willett and Ron Rozelle

(Betcha can’t guess what I’m doing with these…)

Magic, Mystery, and Science: The Occult in Western Civilization, by Dan Burton and David Grandy.

Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife, by Mary Roach

Haunted Boulder by Roz Brown and Ann Alexander Leggett

Will Storr vs. The Supernatural, by Will Storr

The Breast Cancer Book, by Dr. Ruth Grobstein (This is purely to back up some other research. Just don’t want anyone panicking about my health.)

If the NSA or someone ever takes a look at my library record, they’re going to be really confused.

Okay, I’ll take a stab. You’ve been tapped to ghost write the Paris Hilton autobiography and she’s much more interesting than everyone thought.

Got some interesting looking books there. I’m guessing we’re meeting Cormac again. And somebody is having a few probles with the dead – which, in you genre, could mean just about anything. Hahaha.

Kitty winds up in jail during the full moon, and she has the start of an especialy aggresive form of breast cancer. One therianthropes are particularly prone to.

Not that I’m trying to give you any ideas. :)

    Heheheh…

Although I could actually be persuaded to ghost write the Paris Hilton autobiography. What a window into an alien world that would be.

You are reserching how poor Cormack will fare in prison ;) .

    I hope

    Carrie,

What about the changes to “The Rules” caused by the revelation of “supernatural” elements in Kitty’s world. People now know about vampires and werewolves, and soon they’ll know about skinwalkers, brujahs etc.

And about Trish and her mom (p235, Kitty Takes a Holiday). I can just picture the following scene.

She watched as her daughter hesitently entered her bedroom, as downcast and despondent as a yearling pup caught with the pot roast.

Trish looked at her with a look most despairing and said, “Mom, I’ve got…”

    “You’re a werewolf.” mom interrupted.

    A gasp! Fright! Disbelief! Cowering!

“How did you know?” darling daughter demanded.

Mom smiled that annoying smile of secret knowledge, saying, “I should hope that after all these years I’d recognize my daughter’s voice on the radio.”

Still quite disbelieving, Trish sat besides her mother on the bed.

    “And you’re o…” she began.

Mom cut in with, “No, I’m not entirely okay. But you’re my daughter, and there isn’t a damn thing we can do about your lycanthropy.

“Besides, I knew it about a month after you were infected.”

    “What!?”

“I didn’t want you to worry.”

Trish stood up and stared down at the woman who’d raised her.

“You knew all this time, and you let me worry myself half to death about telling you?”

Mom shrugged and said matter of factly, “Honey, i love you, and I always will. But when you’re a wolf, you shed.”

  7. [...] 17th, 2007 Book review time. Just finished two of the finds from my last library trip, and was amazed at how they complemented each other. At the same time, I liked one significantly [...]
