    Don’t chicken out. Most authors never take advantage of the Internet properly and this is an ideal way to do so. You already have a popular series of books and are rising. Making yourself more accessible to the fans (which you already were anyway) I think is an excellent way to instill loyalty. (wow I sound like I work for WordPress don’t I?)
